What We Do

  • Support The Elizabethan Gardens, a public garden located on Roanoke Island, at a site adjoining Fort Raleigh National Park. 

  • Support The Daniel Boone Native Gardens, a public garden located in Boone, adjacent to the outdoor drama Horn in the West.

  • Support The Martha Franck Fragrance Garden, a public garden with a sensory theme, currently located at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh.

  • Co-Sponsor the “Wildflower of the Year” program in cooperation with the North Carolina Botanical Garden.

  • Partner with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, in the establishment of the Roadside Wildflower Program and continue to provide judging and sponsorship for annual achievement awards within NCDOT districts.

  • Fund and support Blue Star Memorial Markers, a National Garden Clubs project, by establishing over 110 markers in NC to honor our veterans.

  • Provide financial college scholarships to outstanding students seeking degrees in botany, landscape or related fields.

  • Create and publish an annual full color engagement calendar and journal using garden related photographs from our members for the purpose of funding our scholarship program.

  • Publish a yearbook of information for members, The North Carolina Gardener.

  • Provide annual club award competitions statewide, regionally, and nationally.

  • Sponsor classes in coordination with the National Garden Club in Environmental Studies, Flower Shows, Garden Study, and Landscape Design, and assist students to become nationally certified in each of these areas.

  • Sponsor and provide leadership for Youth and Junior Garden Clubs.

  • Host and judge National Garden Club Standard Flower Shows throughout the state.

  • Have Standing Committees which monitor Birds, Butterflies and Wildlife issues, State Legislation and Environmental issues, as well as other conservation concerns.

  • Hold two educational statewide meetings for all members each year and annual or biennial meetings in each of our 10 districts for all members.

  • Maintain a permanent headquarters office at the J.C. Raulston Arboretum on the campus of North Carolina State University.
